The usage conditions of vent bricks require them to possess excellent high-temperature resistance and thermal shock resistance to ensure their air permeability and service life. Steel ladle vent bricks typically use plate-shaped alumina as the main raw material, with the addition of aluminum-magnesium spinel, active alumina fine powder, binders, and appropriate additives. Specific additives are also added, and the composition is adjusted multiple times in the laboratory to give the vent bricks excellent performance. When laying vent bricks, to prevent the vent seat bricks from being suspended in the air, dry materials can be evenly spread or alumina self-flowing materials can be used to ensure that the bottom of the vent seat bricks is flat and dense. If the bottom of the vent brick is suspended, under the static pressure of molten steel or the impact during steel tapping and refining, the vent seat brick may crack, and molten steel may leak along the cracks, eventually leading to a steel leakage accident.
During steel ladle hot repairs, the large-package workers use an oxygen lance to clean the vent bricks of residual cold steel and steel slag, ensuring normal air permeability when the bricks are used again. When cleaning, the flatness of the vent brick working surface should be ensured as much as possible, and the cleaning force should not be excessive.
