In the actual production of steel mills, due to the use of permeable cores, the temperature change around them is drastic, and the stirring force of the internal liquid is very strong, so the consumption of bricks on the furnace bottom, especially around the tuyere, will be faster. Therefore, refractory materials with high corrosion resistance, low expansion, and high strength are used on the furnace bottom. In addition, the construction method and quality also greatly affect its service life. As the cross-sectional shape of the permeable brick increases, the thermal stress also increases, making it easier to peel and wear. Therefore, the current method mostly uses a combination of permeable cores and base bricks for construction, which can alleviate the expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes around it and the entire furnace bottom. The construction must be tight, the gap between two adjacent bricks should be minimized, the upper part of the brick should be leveled, and no bonding material or refractory mixed powder should be used to fill the gap between the working layer and the safety layer. The permeable bricks should be perpendicular to the furnace bottom. After the furnace bottom is cut, the top of the permeable bricks should be corrected to be horizontal, with appropriate concavity and convexity. In addition, the finished furnace bottom should be stored elevated to prevent damage to the tail pipe of the permeable bricks.
In addition to ensuring construction quality, relative maintenance work is also needed. Compared with top blowing, the stirring force of bottom blowing is weaker, the partial pressure of carbon monoxide in the furnace is higher, and the metallurgical characteristics are not very good, but the furnace bottom life is longer.

The more intense the steel stirring, the faster the flow rate of molten steel on the furnace bottom, and the faster the consumption of permeable bricks. The flow of molten steel is also affected by the arrangement of brick cores. In the furnace bottom with multiple cores, the smaller the distance between them, the greater the flow rate of molten steel on the bottom surface, and thus the greater the consumption. Only blowing inert gases such as nitrogen and argon will cause much less wear than blowing oxygen. Reasonable layout structure, material selection, processing and forming, assembly, and construction all affect the service life of permeable bricks.
