Refractory materials used for steel ladle linings include porous bricks, water-mouth bricks, magnesia-carbon bricks, castables, etc. In addition to the influence of the ladle lining materials themselves, certain factors during use will accelerate their consumption, leading to a reduction in service life. (Figure) The temperature of the steel ladle pouring molten steel: To be precise, it should be the temperature of the molten steel in the steel ladle. The higher the temperature, the faster the dissolution and corrosion, and the shorter the service life. The steel ladle will go through baking, steel tapping, refining, and continuous casting processes, during which the temperature of the steel ladle fluctuates greatly, causing significant stress on the refractory lining.

Refractory materials used in steel ladle linings include permeable bricks, water-cooled bricks, magnesia-carbon bricks, and castables. Aside from the influence of the ladle lining material itself, certain factors during use can accelerate its consumption, leading to a shorter lifespan.

Several Factors Affecting the Use of Steel Ladle Linings

Steel Ladle Temperature: To be precise, this refers to the temperature of the molten steel within the ladle. Higher temperatures lead to faster dissolution and erosion, resulting in a shorter lifespan. The steel ladle undergoes processes such as baking, steel receiving, refining, and continuous casting, during which the temperature fluctuates significantly. This causes considerable stress on the refractory lining. Under these conditions, refractory materials such as permeable bricks are prone to cracking and spalling, leading to unnecessary wear and tear.

Influence of Steel Slag: The impact of steel slag on the use of steel ladle refractory materials mainly manifests in the slag basicity, slag oxidizability, and slag viscosity.

Influence of Argon Stirring: This primarily refers to the stirring effect during argon blowing refining of molten steel. Argon blowing reduces the oxygen concentration on the slag surface of the ladle, reducing the oxidation of carbon-containing refractory materials. Therefore, the impact of argon blowing on refractory materials is not significant.

In addition to the above factors, there are also influences such as vacuum treatment and molten steel residence time. For these factors, it is necessary to optimize the structure of the refractory materials to reduce consumption and extend their lifespan. Ke Chuang New Materials, as a professional refractory materials manufacturer, has been producing permeable bricks, water-cooled bricks, electric furnace covers, etc., for 22 years, with patented formulas and unique designs, making it trustworthy!
