The function of the ladle lining is to protect the ladle shell metal structure from the high temperature of the molten steel, and to allow the molten steel to stay in the ladle for a certain period of time, so as to adjust the temperature of the molten steel, fine-tune and homogenize the chemical composition, and remove metallic inclusions and harmful gases from the molten steel.
The ladle is an important thermal equipment for steelmakers, which uses bottom-blown argon permeable bricks to achieve the goal of refining molten steel. The function of the ladle lining is to protect the metal structure of the ladle shell from the high temperature of the molten steel, and to allow the molten steel to stay in the ladle for a certain period of time to adjust the temperature of the molten steel, fine-tune and homogenize the chemical composition, and remove metal inclusions and harmful gases from the molten steel.

The main damage to the working layer lining of the ladle is: scouring, spalling, erosion and hydration.
Scouring: The flow of molten steel over the refractory surface will cause physical wear and tear. Molten steel has a greater impact on parts such as the slide plate mechanism, water port bricks and permeable bricks extending beyond the bottom of the ladle. Permeable bricks parts, etc.
Spalling: When refractories are subjected to rapid heating and cooling, stress is generated. When the stress is too great and exceeds the strength of the refractory, cracks will occur inside the refractory. As the crack area expands and propagates, the surface of the refractory will peel off to a greater extent or even completely.
Erosion: There are two main types of erosion: one is the reaction with acidic substances (such as silicon dioxide) in iron oxide or slag, which causes the ladle lining to turn into slag, leading to damage of the refractory; the other is erosion caused by the reaction of carbon in the refractory brick with iron oxide or oxygen in the air. These two types of reactions can cause the internal structure of the refractory brick to become loose, reduce its strength, and ultimately lead to erosion of the refractory lining by slag or molten steel.
Hydration: Hydration occurs when moisture reacts with magnesium oxide in magnesia-carbon bricks before and during baking of the ladle working lining. After hydration, the permeability to steel slag and molten steel is very poor, the physical and chemical properties are greatly reduced, and the erosion of the ladle lining will become faster and faster.

Therefore, the refractory materials of the working layer lining of the ladle should have good resistance to erosion by molten steel and slag, high thermal shock stability, and volume stability performance under operating temperature conditions.
