Permeable bricks for steelmaking, intermediate vessel refractory materials

Refractory bricks used in steelmaking plants are made of materials such as corundum and spinel, mainly containing the compound Al2O3. The function of the permeable bricks in the steel ladle is to remove impurities (unwanted elements, gases, etc.) from the molten steel by bottom blowing gas and to increase the temperature of the molten steel. Some steel ladles have double-permeable bricks, and the permeable core can be replaced.
The porous bricks used by steelmakers are made of materials such as corundum and spinel, and the main compounds they contain are Al 2 O 3 (content ≥90%), and also contain small amounts of MgO, Cr 2 O 3。 Ladle porous bricks are used to remove impurities (unwanted elements, gases, etc.) from molten steel by bottom blowing and to increase the temperature of the molten steel. Some ladles use double porous bricks, in which the porous core can be replaced.

A tundish is a refractory container, a buffering device generally used by steelmakers, used to buffer the impact of molten steel falling after bottom argon blowing treatment with porous bricks. First, it receives the molten steel, reducing the intensity of splashing, and after buffering, the molten steel is distributed to various crystallizers through the nozzle. This not only benefits the safe and reliable refining of the ladle, but also ensures that the physicochemical properties of the molten steel are not significantly affected. The tundish mainly plays the role of reducing pressure, stabilizing flow, removing inclusions, storing, and distributing molten steel. The tundish refractory materials include impact plates, flow stabilizers, porous top nozzles, and slag dam weirs.
Similar to ladle porous bricks, the materials used by manufacturers for tundishes are mainly corundum, etc., and also contain a certain amount of magnesium oxide, etc. Corundum Al 2 O 3 has three main polymorphs: α-Al 2 O 3 、β-Al 2 O 3 、γ-Al 2 O 3 . Corundum's hardness is second only to diamond. Corundum is mainly used in high-grade grinding materials, bearings for watches and precision machinery. Ruby, used as a laser emitting material, is a man-made crystal. Rubies and sapphires belong to the corundum mineral; apart from the asterism effect, only translucent-transparent corundum with vivid colors can be used as gemstones. Red ones are called rubies, while other corundums are commercially known as sapphires.
