1. Oxygen burning and washing
After the steel ladle is emptied until the next ladle of steel is received, the steel ladle will undergo heat repair in the heat repair area. At this time, the working surface of the breathable brick needs to be burnt and washed with oxygen to clean the remaining steel and slag on the working surface. Oxygen lance washing is beneficial to the normal use of breathable bricks. When the bottom of the ladle is in poor condition or the operator in the heat repair area misjudges, the situation may be even worse. The oxygen lance temperature reaches above 2000℃, and the high-temperature airflow is extremely lethal to the breathable bricks. The amount of melting loss in these few minutes is often 2-3 times higher than the erosion amount during normal use.
2. Thermal stress
The refractory materials on the working surface of the breathable bricks, especially the refractory materials around the vent of the breathable bricks, are in direct contact with high-temperature molten steel and are affected by high-temperature molten steel and the continuously flowing cold air, resulting in a large temperature gradient. Due to repeated use, the breathable bricks are subject to large rapid cooling and heating, and the thermal stress near the vent is even greater, easily resulting in annular cracks and fractures.
3. Mechanical wear
During the steel tapping process, the high-speed and strong scouring of molten steel on the bottom of the steel ladle will also accelerate the erosion of the breathable bricks. Studies on the erosion of breathable bricks through hydraulic model tests have found that when low-speed airflow enters the liquid phase melt pool, the airflow rebounds and strikes the leading edge of the breathable brick, giving a certain impact force to the refractory material around the vent of the breathable brick. When the gas flow rate is further increased, the reverse pulse frequency decreases, but the reverse impact intensity further increases. In addition, when argon blowing enters the normal injection state, strong bubbles form a gas injection beam, which strengthens the stirring of the bottom of the steel ladle, intensifies the liquid motion at the bottom of the steel ladle, and the two-phase eddy current subjects the breathable brick to strong shear and impact stress. When the breathable brick is higher than the seat brick, it is particularly susceptible to the shear and scouring of this eddy current. The part above the seat brick is usually scoured away after one use, so this situation often occurs easily when new breathable bricks are replaced. In addition, if the valve is quickly closed after refining, the reverse impact of the molten steel will also accelerate the damage of the breathable bricks.
4. Chemical corrosion
The working surface of the breathable brick is in contact with slag and molten steel for a long time. During the entire ladle service life, the molten slag continuously wets and penetrates into the brick. Oxides such as MnO, MgO, SiO 2 、FeO, Fe 2 O 3 etc., in the molten steel and slag react with the breathable bricks, producing low-melting substances and altered layers. Some low-melting substances will be scoured away. When the ladle is idle for a long time, due to the large temperature difference between hot and cold, the properties of the altered layer and the breathable brick body change significantly, leading to delamination and peeling of the breathable brick under thermal stress, seriously affecting production efficiency and possibly causing accidents.
