During the use of porous bricks in steel plants, the main reasons for the damage of porous bricks are thermal stress, mechanical stress, mechanical wear, and chemical corrosion.
During the use of porous bricks in steel plants, the main reasons for damage to the porous bricks are thermal stress, mechanical stress, mechanical wear, and chemical corrosion.
Porous bricks consist of a porous core and a porous seat brick. When bottom blowing gas is used, the working surface of the porous core will directly contact the high-temperature molten steel. The bottom blowing gas is a cold air stream, forming a very high temperature difference with the high-temperature molten steel. As the number of uses increases, due to the rapid cooling and heating, the corrosion of the porous brick core becomes deeper, easily causing cracks.
The working surface of the bottom porous brick is in direct contact with high-temperature molten steel, while the non-working surface temperature is relatively low. During the repeated use of the steel ladle in steel receiving, steel pouring, and hot repair, the volume of the porous brick and nearby refractory materials changes due to temperature changes. Due to the temperature gradient and the different thermal expansion coefficients between the altered layer and the original layer, the degree of volume change gradually changes from the working surface to the non-working surface of the porous brick, which will produce shear force on the porous brick, causing transverse cracks in the porous brick, and in severe cases, causing transverse fracture of the porous brick.
During steelmaking, the molten steel will strongly scour the bottom of the steel ladle, which will accelerate the erosion of the porous brick. When the upper surface of the porous brick is higher than the bottom of the ladle, it will be subjected to shear and scouring caused by the flow of molten steel. The part above the bottom of the ladle is usually scoured away after one use. In addition, if the valve is closed quickly after refining, the reverse impact of the molten steel will also accelerate the erosion of the porous brick.
The working surface of the porous brick core is in contact with steel slag and molten steel for a long time. The steel slag and molten steel contain iron oxide, ferrous oxide, manganese oxide, magnesium oxide, silicon oxide, etc., while the porous brick contains alumina, silicon oxide, etc., which will react to form low-melting substances (such as FeO·Al2O3, 2(MnO)·SiO2·Al2O3, etc.) and be scoured away.
