The bubbles produced by diffused aeration bricks are small, numerous, and uniform, resulting in relatively better stirring effects from bottom argon blowing. Therefore, diffused aeration bricks are favored by many steel mills.
The internal structure of diffused aeration bricks is not complex. The bottom truncated cone (slit alarm device) and the core structure of the diffused block are pre-fabricated, then shaped like ordinary slit aeration bricks. The manufacturing process is complex and has high technological requirements. To ensure the long lifespan of the diffused block, high-grade synthetic raw materials with high strength, high refractoriness, and excellent corrosion resistance are used for diffused aeration bricks.

As can be seen from the microstructure and the water blowing simulation, the bubbles produced by the air blowing of the diffused aeration brick are small, uniform, and dense. This not only meets the requirements of air permeability and makes stirring the molten steel easier but also allows for the rise of inclusions and improves the refining effect. The aeration core of the diffused aeration brick does not experience the phenomenon of steel often being trapped in the slits, which is common with slit aeration bricks, thus avoiding situations of insufficient bottom blowing or poor air permeability.
During the use of slit aeration bricks, cold argon gas is continuously blown from the tail pipe. The working surface of the aeration brick is in direct contact with the high-temperature molten steel, producing a large temperature gradient. This results in high thermal stress at the working surface and, coupled with the existing rapid cooling and heating action, easily causes transverse breakage near the working surface. The diffused block of the diffused aeration brick has many microporous channels, resulting in a smaller temperature gradient. Therefore, diffused aeration bricks are not prone to transverse breakage on the brick core surface. Another characteristic of diffused aeration bricks is their alarm function. The alarm device is designed with slits; the slit phenomenon is easier to observe in the later stages of use, and the ladle is removed as soon as slits appear, making it safer than slit aeration bricks.

Diffused aeration bricks have many advantages compared to slit aeration bricks. For steel mills, the choice of aeration brick type depends on the refining type and process flow.
